Detailed analysis of the outages with our Business and Enterprise email services.
Cause:
Over the last year, we have been working on improving our Email infrastructure by making incremental changes to the system. One of these changes was to use the Mesos orchestration system. Mesosphere enables us to better our email system in the areas of automatic scaling and building redundancy.
As a part of this implementation, we were onboarding our mail applications on to Mesos. During this, the traffic on the proxy exceeded our original calculations which caused instability. We tried to optimize the setup at the time, but we were not successful. Due to this, we had to roll back the change and re-configure the implementation. Now the system works by routing traffic running through both, Mesos and the current setup.
