Plesk Onyx to Plesk Obsidian Transition - What’s new?

Posted on 7th September, 2020

We are already in the process of upgrading the Plesk panel version on our shared Windows hosting servers. We are here to announce what you can expect in the latest Plesk Obsidian version.

1) PHP 7.4:

The latest stable version of PHP which is PHP 7.4 is now available in the Plesk Obsidian version. The PHP version can be changed from Websites and Domains >> Select PHP version

2) SSL Certificate - Installation and Management:

The Let’s Encrypt option used to be under Websites & Domains > Let’s Encrypt previously. In Obsidian, you will have to go to Websites & Domains > SSL/TLS certificates. Additionally, now it supports more Certificate Authorities like Symantec, GeoTrust, and RapidSSL paid SSL along with Let’s Encrypt. You will be able to choose the SSL certificate authority and install the SSL certificate provided by the authority.

3) FTP Access:

The way FTP works have changed in Plesk obsidian mainly for the accounts which are using a dedicated IP address. The Plesk accounts which have a dedicated IP address will have to use Active Directory login mode to access account files via FTP. For example, let us assume:

FTP username: ftptest123

Server hostname: pleskserver.webhostbox.net

then the login command will be as follows:

----

#] ftp pleskserver.webhostbox.net

Enter username: .\ftptest123 or pleskserver\ftptest123

331 PAssword required

Enter password: **************

220 user logged in

ftp> ls

200 PORT command successfull

----

These are the major changes apart from a few UI enhancements included in Plesk Obsidian. Feel free to contact our support team anytime for any clarification.
