NIXI (National Internet Exchange of India) has introduced several mandatory policy changes for all .IN, third level .IN, and .BHARAT domain names. These updates are designed to enhance security, data privacy, and compliance across all domain operations, including registrations, renewals, transfers-in, and contact modifications.
What This Means for You:
Eligibility Requirements: Only Indian registrants are permitted. All new registrations, transfers-in, and contact modifications must use India as the Registrant country.
Email Restrictions: The use of disposable or temporary email providers for Registrant contacts is strictly prohibited.
VPN Restrictions: The Registrant's actual IP address must be captured at the time of registration. The use of VPNs or masked IPs is no longer permitted.
eKYC and Email Verification: Mandatory Electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) and Registrant email verification are required for key domain operations. Registrants have 15 days to complete these verifications.
Please Note:
If you use SuperSite & the Reseller Control Panel, the necessary validations and verification workflows (including eKYC via Digio) will be handled automatically.
If you use our APIs, you are required to implement these validations and storefront flows independently. We have introduced new API enhancements, including a new VerificationInfo object in the Get Domain Details API and a new Resend Verification Email API, to support these changes.
For example:
If a customer attempts to register a .IN domain using a prohibited email provider or a masked IP/VPN, the registration must be blocked or a warning displayed.
Domains that fail to complete the required eKYC and Email Verification within the 15-day window will be suspended until the verification process is successfully completed.
Important Reminder
To ensure continued compliance and avoid service interruptions:
API Resellers must update their storefronts. Demo Server APIs for testing will be available starting 25th March 2026, and Production APIs will go live on 31st March 2026.
Ensure your customers are aware that VPNs must be turned off during the registration workflow to prevent domain suspension or deletion by NIXI.
We are committed to ensuring your transition to these new guidelines is as seamless as possible. If you have any implementation questions or need assistance, please raise a ticket through our Helpdesk.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership.
